WHAT? I'M IN MED SCHOOL?!?
So, it's 6 months into med school and for some reason I still kinda find it hard to believe I got in. I was just reminded by my parents about how i thought it'd be so easy to get in... i was pretty dumb back then.
There are many better things I could be doing with my time right now: signing up for my FREE $100,000 life insurance, filling out Professional Competency evaluation forms about myself, reading up on kidneys and what not (it took me 3 tries to spell "kidneys" correctly just now... not a good start...). But instead, I'm going to take time and reflect on a few things I've done....
So supposedly, I kinda know how to be a doctor when it comes to cardio, respiratory, hematology, gastrointestinal, and endocrine stuff (includes histories AND physicals! yay!). but really, it almost feels like i'm still in undergrad - i mean, TONS has changed but i thought being at Mac meant a lot more patient contact. But on top of classes and tutorials and taking time off for myself, there aren't too many opportunities for actually doing doctor work. Needless to say, i'm looking fwd to this summer's electives and clerkship after that.
My parents now live in Canada. They're in Kington and they came sooooo close to closing a deal on a house there. I was actually pretty excited! which is weird for me.. hmm. yeah, actually having a home to go back to will be great - andrew and i are already making plans for the rec room.
Just spent my "birthday" weekend in Oshawa at my sis' place. The whole family was there and I ate way too much - lobsters, crabs, muscles, soya sauce pork, ribs, honey garlic wings, bacon and eggs, waffles with ice cream and peaches. ALL HOME-COOKED too! I measured my blood pressure twice during the weekend and both times they were high as hell. dad's getting pretty worried... i'm gettign pretty worried... everyone except my doctor... stupid doctors. i'm gonna go make an apopintment and demand the full checkup.
i just bought a humidor. yes, a good retort would be this: "but you don't have cigars!". yeah but i need to get a humidor first, so i can put cigars in 'em... DUH! gosh... here it is; she's a sexy beast of a humidor:
I was thinking: it's quite likely I'm not ever going back to singapore for like, the next 10 years. which is kinda sad... so many good memories there, querky squash friends to hang out with, fun church friends to play soccer with and chat about the time we were in primary 4 and liked the same girl... ahh those were good times. but moving on, letting go. it's interesting how mom and dad's moving here kinda ended the singapore chapter of my life... interesting...
Anyways, wish me luck for Medical Foundation 3 (starts tomorrow). and contact me and catch up with me you lazy bum.
sincerely,
your cutest singapore-canadian friend, jon
